Tora Judo Club: Founded in 1970

Tora Judo Club is a martial arts club that teaches the only approved style of judo, Kodokan Judo. The club has taught thousands of students since its inception in 1970 and is proud to have had the Terry Mills Rec Center as its home for over 45 years. From quite humble beginnings, Tora has grown into one of the largest clubs by membership in Ontario and is complete with one of the largest dojo spaces in Canada.

Tora Judo club strives to adhere to the central tenet of judo’s founder Jigoro Kano: ‘The purpose of the study of judo is to perfect yourself and contribute to society.’ With that in mind, Tora’s aim is to not create competitive individuals at the expense of personal growth. At the club, we truly believe that to produce a well-rounded individual requires training, team work, selflessness and the utmost dedication. Tora’s volunteer Sensei adhere to such principles and teach students with these values in mind while instructing the techniques of judo.

The teaching of one virtuous person can influence many; that which has been learned well by one generation can be passed on to a hundred.’

-Jigoro Kano
