2017 NATIONAL JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS

2017 NATIONAL JUDO CHAMPIONSHIPS Tora Judo attended the 2017 National Judo Championships in Calgary Alberta from May 24 to May 28. The tournament attracts over 700 competitors from across Canada. The club had strong performances in all categories. In Juno Kata Sensei Grant Kuramoto and Lindsay Kuramoto took second place. In the Goshin Jitsu Kata they tied points for third place but lost out on tie breaker criteria, obtaining 4th place. Deanna Barnes competed in both the U18 and U16 divisions in her first Nationals appearance. In the U18 division she went 1 and 2 finishing 9th place out of 16 and in the U16 division she finished 7th out of 18 going 2 and 2 for the day. James Lonsdale also competed in both the U18 and U16 categories in his second appearance at Nationals. In the U18 division James finished 15th out of 28 competitors going 2 and 2 for the day. In the U16 division James finished third place out of 15, narrowly missing out on the gold medal match. Matthew Coculuzzi made his first appearance at Nationals this year fighting in the U16 finishing 9th out of 16 competitors. Congratulations to the team on their hard work and results in this tough competition.
